HWH Hydraulic Hose Failure in 2005-2010 Intrigue, Magna, Affinity Motorcoaches

GUEST POST: Tech Talk with Oregon Motorcoach Center, Eugene OR

Since Oregon Motorcoach Center’s opening in 2008 the service center has come across certain issues that seem to be consistent with certain Country Coach models/floorplans and/or years. One particular, is HWH hydraulic hose failures in 2005-2010 model year Intrigue, Magna, and Affinity’s with P/S rear sliderooms.

In these units the synchronizing cylinder for the P/S bedroom slide-out is located near an extreme heat source. This part is located in the rear end of the P/S rear wheel well, behind the tag-axle wheel. In this location the temperatures from the exhaust, as well as other heat sources in the immediate area, can cause damage to the hydraulic hoses connected to the synchronizing cylinder.  Some of the damage will be hoses that have blistered, ruptured, and in some cases, pop-out of the crimped hose end connectors.

Some common signs that this may be occurring are: rear P/S sliderooms creeping in or out on their own, slideroom operates unevenly, or hydraulic fluid running down the mud flap (P/S rear wheel well).

The corrective action for this is relocating the synchronizing cylinder forward in the wheel well, away from the heat source.  Depending on the condition of the hoses, they will need to be replaced. In some cases the hoses can be repaired and lengthened, to accommodate the new location of the synchronizing cylinder.
